Give every part of dinner a realistic job

Some evenings have room for a simmering pot and a chopped salad. Others need a package of gnocchi, a pan, and very little negotiation. Both can belong in a thoughtful meal plan.

A semi-homemade dinner combines one simple cooking task with products that remove work: prepared hummus, tortillas, a ready-to-dress salad, frozen vegetables, or a sauce you like. Plan those shortcuts deliberately so your menu reflects the dinner you will actually make.

Five dinners built around a manageable task

The quantities below are starting points for four people. Review the serving guidance on purchased products, especially soups, sauces, and meal kits. Optional sides are extra purchases; leave them out if they do not suit your household.

Dinner one: a skillet of gnocchi

For four, use 800 g shelf-stable gnocchi, 400 g sliced mushrooms, 150 g spinach, two minced garlic cloves, three tablespoons olive oil, half a teaspoon salt, and a quarter teaspoon black pepper. Brown the mushrooms in two tablespoons oil for about eight minutes, then add garlic for one minute. Cook the gnocchi according to its packet, drain, and add it to the skillet with the remaining oil. Toss for about three minutes, then add the spinach and seasonings and cook until wilted and hot.

The packaged gnocchi handles the dough-making. The mushrooms and greens give you something freshly cooked. If your chosen gnocchi has different preparation instructions, follow those rather than assuming all products behave alike.

Dinner two: roasted vegetable wraps

For four, use eight tortillas, 300 g prepared hummus, 400 g broccoli, 300 g carrots, one onion, two tablespoons olive oil, one teaspoon cumin, and half a teaspoon salt. Heat the oven to 425°F / 220°C. Cut the broccoli into small florets, the carrots into thin sticks, and the onion into slices. Toss with oil and seasonings; roast on a roomy tray for about 20–25 minutes, turning once, until tender and browned. Warm tortillas according to the packet, spread with hummus, and divide the vegetables among them.

You can choose prepared vegetables to reduce chopping. Keep the ingredient quantities in the plan and check what is actually included in the package.

Finish the week with three flexible formulas

For pasta night, start with 350 g dry pasta, 480 g drained white beans, and about 700 g of a pasta sauce you enjoy. Cook the pasta according to its packet, warm the beans in the sauce, and loosen with reserved pasta water as needed. Add a side only if you want it.

For quesadillas, use eight tortillas, 480 g drained black beans, 120 g spinach, 200 g grated cheddar, one teaspoon cumin, and one tablespoon oil. Mash the beans with cumin, sandwich the filling, greens, and cheese between paired tortillas, and cook in a lightly oiled skillet until hot and melted. Buy salsa separately if you want it.

For soup night, buy enough soup to provide four meal-sized portions according to the product you choose, plus eight slices of bread. A small labeled serving may be intended as a starter, so consider appetite and whether you are adding a side.

Build a list that includes the convenient parts

A menu titled “Soup night” will not remind you which soup to buy. Name the product, the package size, and the number of packages you need. In MenuDrop, a dish can have a recipe or a specific product attachment. Use the recipe for the cooking you are doing and the product for the ready-made item you intend to purchase.

For this whole plan, tortillas appear twice: eight for wraps and eight for quesadillas, making sixteen total. Spinach appears twice too: 150 g plus 120 g, making 270 g. Check those overlaps before shopping. Product substitutions can change ingredients, portions, and preparation instructions, so review the actual selection.

Keep the shortcut that helps you return

Use the Quick week planner for more complete recipe options, then adapt your own menu to the products your household likes. There is no prize for making a component from scratch when it makes dinner harder to repeat. A good menu earns its place by being useful on an ordinary evening.
